Precision Engineering

While Dalvey employs a broad range of materials, precision-engineered metalwork is central to the design heritage.  It is the minute exactness, resilience and durable lustre of high-grade stainless steel that forms the basis of many of the most iconic designs in the range.

Our skills in metalwork originated in the company’s long history as a manufacturer of musical instruments, during which we worked primarily in turned African Blackwood, carved ivory, and silver.  Silver is well suited to ornamentation, but is a malleable and easily tarnishing metal; as the company developed its unique range of accessories, it became clear that the most suitable material to use was stainless steel, which is strong, challenging, and difficult to work with, but affording the committed craftsman a depth of precision unavailable in softer metals.

Stainless steel is very durable, and can retain a mirror-polish with a minimum of care, making it extremely well-suited to use in men’s accessories.
